#SaferToBeMe Hotel Booking and Advocacy Fund

Need support to get to the #SaferToBeMe Summit? We may be able to offer a small contribution for attendees travel costs, as well as discounted rates on hotel stays via our hotel partner.

Scholarships via the Advocacy Fund:

If funds are available, we may be able to contribute to some limited travel and hotel costs to offer the opportunity for LGBTQ+ activists to attend the Summit, via a small scholarship - typically £600 (British Pounds) per person. This is open to activists who have a role (either paid or unpaid) as part of an LGBTQ+ organisation. This is also prioritised for LGBTQ+ activists and organisations from the United Nations list of Least Economically Developed Countries.

These 44 LEDCs are distributed among the following regions:

  • Africa (32): Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Togo, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia

  • Asia (8): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Myanmar, Nepal, Timor-Leste and Yemen

  • Caribbean (1): Haiti

  • Pacific (3): Kiribati, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu

Selection process:

  • CV: We need evidence that you are part of an LGBTQ+ organisation, as either a paid worker or volunteer.

  • Motivation: Strong applications will clearly explain how attending the conference will contribute to the organisation’s work and how the learning will be shared afterward. This will be through uploading a letter of motivation.

  • Diversity: We aim for a balanced representation. We also consider the diversity of the overall scholarship pool across different identities, nation states, and lived experiences.

  • Quality of responses: Applications with one-line answers or unanswered questions will not be considered. We take each application seriously as an important source of information to ensure a fair and thoughtful selection process. Please provide clear, meaningful responses to help us understand your context and motivation.

  • Use of AI tools: The use of AI tools for purposes like translation or editing is acceptable. However, applications that appear to rely on AI-generated answers as their content will not be considered.

If successful, please note the following rules of the scholarship:

  • It is unlikely that we can provide the full cost of your travel and hotels, so please plan for this. We may be able to provide you with reduced hotel fees or a homestay for free, so if successful, contact us first.

  • Please do not book travel or apply for visas until your scholarship is confirmed.

  • You will need to book your own travel independently and payment will not be made until proof of travel or hotel is given to us via receipt. You will have to pay upfront once the scholarship is confirmed - we do not give payments upfront.

  • For those who are successful in receiving travel costs, we will also waive your conference ticket cost. You will have to still book a ticket, but we will provide you with a code to get your ticket for free.

  • If you need a VISA, ReportOUT will provide you with an invitation letter to support your VISA application process once your scholarship has been granted and you have registered for the conference.

  • Please note that each organisation can only submit one scholarship application. We encourage organisations to decide internally who they wish to delegate before applying.

  • Participants are responsible for following the U.K. government visa application process and providing the requested documentation needed. ReportOUT, Pride Action North, or OUT North East will support registered participants with an invitation letter.

Please check out our conference location and question and answer page for further details.

We would warmly welcome people donating or fundraising for our Advocacy Fund to help bring LGBTQ+ activists from LDCs and other Global South countries. If you can help with a donation, or to fundraise for it, please contact us at safertobeme@reportout.org and we will be in touch.
